Is a Down Payment Compulsory for Bad Credit Auto Loans?

It is said that in the lending trade, there are no compulsions over any requirement. All it matters is whether the applicant has been able to browse the lender who is ready to provide him/her the finances. However, a majority of dealerships and lending institutions make it compulsory to get a down payment for loan approval. This is done both for the benefit of the lender and borrower.

Basically, in a bad credit auto loan, the amount of risk involved is higher. This means that the lender is already apprehensive regarding whether the loan should be approved or not. Now, if the borrower doesn’t wish to provide a down payment, then the lender might fear that he/she isn’t serious regarding paying back the loan. A down payment assures the lender that the applicant is now committed to the auto loan and would be more dedicated in seeing its completion.

As for the borrower, providing a down payment reduces the amount that is going to be financed. This reduces the pressure on the applicant and chances are that the lender might reduce the interest charged on the loan if the down payment is good enough (less risk = less interest). Therefore, it isn’t compulsory to get a down payment for bad credit auto loan, but it helps both the lender and the borrower to have a good loan process.
